A Digital Environment Built to Evolve

Created from the ground up in 2016, the FSCJ Training & Organizational Development website has evolved into a digital environment supporting professional development, learning, communication, and organizational capability across a diverse institutional audience.

Across three major iterations, the work has brought together information architecture, knowledge and content organization, user experience, visual design, CMS implementation, accessibility, and governance to support an environment that can evolve with the organization.

Today, the environment continues to be strategically managed and stewarded to remain useful, sustainable, and responsive to changing organizational needs.

01

The Challenge

Transforming an Underperforming Digital Environment

The existing Training & Organizational Development website had become difficult to navigate, maintain, and evolve. Its information architecture and user experience made content difficult to discover, the technology was outdated, and the visual experience no longer reflected the institution's brand. At the same time, learning resources, programs, procedures, communications, and organizational information continued to grow.

The challenge was to transform the site from a collection of information into a sustainable digital environment—one that could serve diverse audiences, connect related resources, support learning and communication, and give the organization greater control over its own content.

A

Rebuild Findability

Users needed clearer pathways to training, programs, resources, procedures, and organizational knowledge.
B

Connect the Pieces

Programs, learning pathways, resources, communications, knowledge, and information needed to work together rather than exist as isolated pieces.
C

Design for Growth

New programs, resources, initiatives, and communications were continually being added, requiring flexible structures that could grow without sacrificing consistency or usability.
D

Empower the Organization

Interdepartmental users needed practical ways to publish and maintain their own information and files while working within an increasingly governed digital environment.

02

The Consulting

From Website Redesign to Digital Environment Strategy

The consulting approach brought together information architecture, knowledge and content organization, user experience, technology, and governance to establish a digital environment that could serve diverse audiences and evolve with the organization. The focus extended beyond how the experience would look to how information would connect, how content could be managed, and how the environment could remain useful and sustainable over time.

A

Information Architecture

Structure information, content, and organizational knowledge so people can find, understand, and navigate what they need.
B

Content & Page Systems

Establish repeatable structures for organizing, presenting, maintaining, and connecting content and knowledge across the environment.
C

User Experience

Develop intuitive pathways that help different audiences discover relevant information and take action.
D

Governance & Sustainability

Establish publishing practices, content ownership, file-management approaches, and administrative processes that allow the environment to evolve.

03

The Strategy

A Digital Environment Designed Around the Work It Supports

The strategy was to create an environment that connected the different kinds of work taking place across Training & Organizational Development rather than treating each resource, program, or communication as a separate destination.
A

Learning

Professional development, programs, courses, and learning opportunities.
B

Knowledge

Resources, procedures, guidance, and organizational information.
C

Communication

News, events, initiatives, and timely information for the college community.
D

Capability

An environment that enables distributed contributors to manage, publish, and maintain information within a more coherent and governed structure.

04

The Work

A Cohesive Digital Environment for Learning and Organizational Development

The resulting environment brought together learning opportunities, resources, communications, and organizational information within a more coherent digital experience. The work included information architecture, content and page systems, visual design, CMS implementation, accessibility, and the structures needed to support ongoing management and evolution.

The Result

From Website Redesign to a Sustained Digital Environment

The work evolved beyond a website redesign into a sustained digital environment for professional development, learning, communication, and organizational knowledge. Across three major iterations, the environment has continued to expand while maintaining a coherent structure for discovering, managing, and connecting information.

The result is not simply a redesigned website, but an environment that can accommodate new programs, resources, communications, and organizational needs as they emerge.

07

The Value

Built for the Work That Comes After Launch

The lasting value of the work is not a single website iteration. It is the digital environment and organizational capability created around it—a structure that helps people find and use information while giving the organization a practical foundation for managing and improving the environment over time.

Better digital environments begin with understanding the work they are meant to support.
